In the morning, we will leave Chicago’s Chinatown for Springfield - Abraham Lincoln’s home town. While there, we will check out the State Capitol of Illinois which is the tallest non-skyscraper capitol building in the United States. We will then check out the Gateway Arch which is the tallest man-made monument in the world - created in commemoration of the men and women who made the country’s expansion possible. Also part of this tour is a visit to the St. Louis Cathedral with its large mosaic collection.
Hotel: Comfort Inn Festus or equivalent
In the morning, we will make our way to the Meramec Caverns and learn of their rich history and we will see all of the magnificent views. The caverns have so much history; going from Native Americans using them for shelter, to being used in the manufacture of gunpowder and to being the hiding place for the infamous outlaw Jesse James. We will then take a cruise along the Meramec River before heading back to Chicago in the afternoon.
