We will travel through the interesting countryside of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The beautiful town of Gettysburg is rich in history and we will tour some interesting places on our visit. We will check out the rolling countryside of Pennsylvania on our way to the battlefield. We will visit Shriver House Museum- a restored house from the Civil War that will provide us with a wonderful look at history. The Shrivers were a family that lived close to the battlefield and their home is dedicated to showcase how they lived as well as how civilians were affected by the destruction and chaos around them. We will check out the preserved rooms and newspapers in the home that tell us a story or two from history.
Our next stop will be the Gettysburg Visitor Center where we will watch a short film- narrated by Morgan Freeman. The film will give us a look at the historical backing for the tour. After watching the short film, we will head upstairs where we will check out a one-of- a-kind cyclorama-which will provide us with a 360-degree experience of the battlefield. We will visualize the movements of the troops and key moments such as the Pickett’s Charge with a viewing of the battlefield.
We will tour the museum where we will be presented with what led up to the famous battle and why it occurred in the way it did. We will be able to views some of the artillery used as well as memorabilia of the Confederacy. We will get an insight of the long-lasting impact that the battle had on the town of Gettysburg.
Our last bit of the tour will be a two-hour visit to the battlefield. We will board a motor coach which will take us around the key landmarks of the battlefield such as the Big and Little Round Top, the Peach Orchard, Devil’s Den and so much more.
